Going the Extra Mile (G.E.M) Award of Excellence Program

The G.E.M. Award for Excellence is a Council PTA program that recognizes school PTAs who are "Going the Extra Mile" in pursuit of excellence. The path to excellence starts with a joint commitment of PTA and school leaders, to work together to achieve PTA's National Standards for Family-School Partnerships.

Each month, any school within EPISD that has an active PTA/PTSA in good standing can be nominated or nominate themselves, and demonstrate how they are “Going the Extra Mile” in pursuit of 3 or more of the six National PTA Standards of Excellence. Eligible PTAs will be judged by the Council Board.  The recognition will be given at the regular monthly membership meeting of the EPISD Council of PTAs and recipients will receive a trophy they can showcase on their campus for one month. When a new G.E.M. is selected, the trophy is passed to the next school.

The goal of the program is to motivate schools and PTAs to build meaningful, two-way partnerships where families and school staff are equal partners in decisions that affect children and student outcomes.
